Eureka College is a small private liberal arts college in Eureka, Illinois, related by covenant to the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). It was chartered by the Illinois legislature in 1855 and founded by abolitionists who had left Kentucky; its roots go back to a group that began in 1848 as Walnut Grove Academy. The college is often cited as the first in Illinois, and only the third in the United States, to educate women on an equal basis with men. Abraham Lincoln spoke on campus in 1856, and Abingdon College merged into Eureka in 1885. Ronald Reagan graduated in 1932 and the campus is home to the Ronald Reagan Museum and Peace Garden. Wikipedia lists about 559 students for fall 2023. First-year applicants can use the college's own application or the Common App, with no application fee, and admission is based on the cumulative GPA. Submitting ACT or SAT scores is optional, and reviews are rolling.
