Emmanuel College is a private Catholic college in Boston, Massachusetts, founded by the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur. It opened on September 22, 1919, with 27 day students, as the first Catholic women's college in New England, and received its charter in 1921. Sister Helen Madeleine was its dean from 1919 to 1950 and is widely regarded as its founder. The college won accreditation from the National Catholic Education Association in 1923 and opened its first graduate school in 1926. For more than 80 years it was a women's college; it became coeducational in 2001. Emmanuel sits on The Fenway, is a member of the Colleges of the Fenway consortium, and also operates a living-and-learning campus in Roxbury. It competes in NCAA Division III. Its official site lists undergraduate and graduate and professional programs.
