Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University began in 1926 at Lunken Field in Cincinnati, Ohio, as a flight and mechanics school opened by Talton Higbee Embry and John Paul Riddle. The school moved to Miami in 1939 and settled in Daytona Beach in 1965, earning university status in the following years. The Daytona Beach campus sits next to Daytona Beach International Airport and has its own aircraft ramp for flight training. It offers about 52 majors across aviation, engineering and business, with AABI-accredited aviation programmes and ABET-accredited engineering programmes. It also runs one of the largest Air Force ROTC programmes in the country. The Eagles compete in NCAA Division II, mostly in the Sunshine State Conference, with 22 varsity sports. The university reports 8,748 students at Daytona Beach and over 31,000 worldwide across its campuses. The input address at McConnell AFB, Kansas, is an extension site, not the Daytona Beach campus, whose address is 1 Aerospace Blvd.
