Dominican University is a private Catholic university in River Forest, Illinois, affiliated with the Sinsinawa Dominican Sisters. The university dates its founding to 1901, when it began as a women's college called St. Clara College in Sinsinawa, Wisconsin; Wikipedia traces the lineage further back to St. Clara Female Academy, chartered in 1848 by Fr. Samuel Mazzuchelli. The school moved to River Forest in 1922 and was renamed Rosary College, and in 1997 it became Dominican University to reflect its comprehensive, modern scope. First-year admission is holistic, based on high school academic performance, engagement in and outside the classroom, and an essay. Sharing ACT or SAT scores is optional and the scores are not used for admission decisions. Decisions are made on a rolling basis starting in early fall, and admitted students are automatically considered for merit scholarships with no extra paperwork. Admissions can be reached at 708-524-6800.
