DeVry University began in 1931 in Chicago as the De Forest Training School, founded by Herman A. DeVry, who invented a motion picture projector and named the school for his friend Lee de Forest. After his death in 1941 it was renamed DeVry Technical Institute in 1953 and gained accreditation to confer associate degrees in electronics in 1957. Its parent company, DeVry Education Group, became Adtalem Global Education in 2017, and Adtalem sold DeVry to Cogswell Education, with the sale finalized December 11, 2018. Wikipedia and a 2026 press release place its headquarters in Lisle, Illinois. The university teaches online and through campuses, so the Kansas City address in the listing is only one site. Admission requires an interview with an admissions advisor, and applicants must be 17 by the first day of class.
