Culver-Stockton College is a private liberal arts college in Canton, Missouri, affiliated with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). It was founded in 1853 as Christian University, began classes in 1855, and is described as the first institution west of the Mississippi River chartered specifically for men and women. Federal troops occupied its only building during the Civil War, nearly ending the school. Fire destroyed Old Main in 1903, and its replacement, Henderson Hall, was later added to the National Register of Historic Places. The college took its current name in 1917, honoring donors Mary Culver and Robert Stockton. Kelly M. Thompson became its first woman president in 2014. Wikipedia lists 1,028 students in fall 2024 on a 140-acre campus, and its Wildcats compete in the NAIA.
