Cranbrook Academy of Art is a graduate-only school of art, architecture and design in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, and the art school of the Cranbrook Educational Community. It was founded in 1932 by George Gough Booth and Ellen Scripps Booth. It awards the Master of Fine Arts and a post-professional Master of Architecture, and enrolls only about 150 students in total, typically 10 to 16 per class. Its model is an apprenticeship in which each student works under an artist-in-residence with no traditional courses, and it has ties to the Arts and Crafts movement. Applicants apply to one program through SlideRoom; the official page lists nine programs including Ceramics, Fiber, Graphic Design, Industrial Design, Metalsmithing, Painting, Photography, Print Media and Sculpture. Applications for Fall 2027 open October 1 and are accepted until February 1, 2027, and Gilbert Fellowship and priority scholarship review requires submission by that date.
