Cottey College is a private women's college in Nevada, Missouri, a town of about 8,200 that is the seat of Vernon County. According to Wikipedia it was founded in 1884 by Virginia Alice Cottey Stockard as Vernon Seminary and renamed Cottey College in 1886. In 1927 it was given to the P.E.O. For most of its history it was a two-year college, and it became a four-year baccalaureate-granting college in 2011. The 66-acre campus has three residence halls organized into suites. The Comets compete in the NAIA's American Midwest Conference with nine varsity sports.
