Colorado Technical University was founded in 1965 as Colorado Technical College, set up by Air Force veteran Robert Turkisher to train former military personnel in technical and vocational subjects. It became a university and adopted its present name in 1995. The main campus is in Colorado Springs, but most students study online. Fall 2023 enrollment was 28,852, of whom 26,114 were undergraduates. It is a for-profit university owned by Perdoceo Education Corporation, formerly Career Education Corporation. Colleges cover business and management, engineering and computer science, health sciences, information systems and technology, security studies, project management and nursing. It is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission; two engineering bachelor's programs hold ABET accreditation and nursing is CCNE-accredited. It was named a Purple Heart University in 2018. Graduation rates reported by federal sources are low, roughly 23 to 25 percent, so applicants may wish to compare outcomes before enrolling.
