Colorado Christian University was founded in 1914 by Clifton Fowler as the Denver Bible Institute. It became Denver Bible College in 1945 and Rockmont College in 1949, then Colorado Christian College after a mid-1980s merger, and took its present name in 1989 on merging with Colorado Baptist University. North Central accreditation came in 1981; today it is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. The main campus is in Lakewood, about 10 miles west of Denver, with regional learning centers across Colorado, and a renovation costing over 120 million dollars is underway. Fall 2024 enrollment was about 10,563, including 8,234 undergraduates. It has two colleges, one undergraduate and one for adult and graduate studies, and over 100 degree programmes with 30 undergraduate majors. The Cougars play NCAA Division II in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, with 15 sports and over 200 athletes.

CCU does not require an ACT, SAT or CLT score for admission, and reviews coursework rigor, essays and a spiritual recommendation. A score still matters for top merit scholarships.
