Central College is a private liberal arts college in Pella, Iowa, founded in 1853 by the Baptist Convention of Iowa as Central University of Iowa. Control passed to the Reformed Church in America in 1916, and the school took the name Central College in 1994; its ties to the denomination have loosened since 2021. It is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and offers more than 60 academic programs. The campus is known for its environmentally conscious buildings, including several LEED-certified facilities. Central competes in NCAA Division III athletics as the Dutch. Its Pella setting reflects the Dutch heritage of the town, and the college is part of the community's cultural life. First-year applicants are reviewed on their high school record; standardized test scores are optional, a high school GPA and transcript are required, and the application fee is reported as $25 with waivers available.
