Catholic Theological Union (CTU) is a private Catholic graduate school of theology in the Hyde Park neighborhood of Chicago. It was founded in 1968 through the merger of seminaries of several Catholic religious orders, an outgrowth of the collaboration encouraged after the Second Vatican Council and a 1964 address by Cardinal Leo Suenens. It is sponsored by 24 institutes and Catholic faith communities and celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2019. CTU prepares students for ordained and lay ministry through graduate degrees such as the Master of Divinity and the Master of Arts in Theology. Master's applicants submit a degree application with a $55 non-refundable fee, a personal statement of about three double-spaced pages, a resume, transcripts from every college attended and three reference letters. The admissions page notes at least one academic reference for MA in Theology applicants and that Fall 2026 applications are open.
