Capitol Technology University is a private university in South Laurel, Maryland, near Washington, D.C., focused on engineering, computer science, information technology, cybersecurity and business. It was founded in 1927 by Eugene H. Rietzke, a former Navy radioman, as the Capitol Radio Engineering Institute, and was renamed Capitol Institute of Technology in 1964, Capitol College in 1987 and Capitol Technology University in 2014. It sits on a 52-acre suburban campus and is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. Wikipedia lists about 820 students in fall 2022, most of them graduate students. The NSA designated it a National Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education in 2003, and its first doctoral program, a Doctor of Science in Cybersecurity, launched in 2010. Several programs are ABET-accredited. The row founding year of 1969 does not match the 1927 institutional origin.
