UMass Global is a nonprofit university headquartered in Irvine, California, that serves mostly working adults. Its history starts in 1958, when Chapman College faculty began teaching classes for service members at Marine Corps Air Station El Toro. Those military education centers grew into the College of Lifelong Learning, which became Chapman University College in 2001 and was renamed Brandman University in 2009 after a gift from the Joyce and Saul Brandman Foundation. In September 2021 it separated from the Chapman University system and affiliated with the University of Massachusetts, taking the name UMass Global. That was an affiliation, not a merger or acquisition by UMass. It remains accredited by the WASC Senior College and University Commission. The university operates 25 campuses across California and Washington plus a virtual campus, and offers more than 90 degree, certificate, credential and professional programs.
