Bradley University in Peoria began as Bradley Polytechnic Institute in 1897, a memorial Lydia Moss Bradley created for her late husband and children. She gave seventeen and a half acres, $170,000 for buildings and a library, and $30,000 a year for operations. It started as a four-year academy beside a two-year college, dropped the academy by 1920 for a four-year collegiate programme, and adopted the Bradley University name in 1946. Today it has five colleges: Caterpillar College of Engineering and Technology, Education and Health Sciences, Liberal Arts and Sciences, Foster College of Business, and Slane College of Communications and Fine Arts. Wikipedia lists 5,217 students for fall 2023, including 3,883 undergraduates. Undergraduate applicants are not required to submit ACT or SAT scores, and the nursing major sets its own separate thresholds.
