Boston College is a private Catholic Jesuit research university in Chestnut Hill, a village of Newton, Massachusetts, founded in 1863 by the Society of Jesus. It enrolled about 15,200 students in fall 2024 across nine colleges and schools, including the Morrissey College of Arts and Sciences, the Carroll School of Management, the Lynch School of Education and Human Development, the Connell School of Nursing and the Boston College Law School. Newton College of the Sacred Heart merged into it in the mid-1970s, and in 2020 it took over Pine Manor College, which now operates as Messina College. Its Gothic-style campus on Commonwealth Avenue and its Eagles athletics, including NCAA men's hockey titles, are well known. Boston College is test-optional and applicants apply through the Common Application, choosing one of four undergraduate divisions to which they are considered.
