Berklee College of Music is a private music college in Boston, Massachusetts, founded in 1945 by Lawrence Berk as Schillinger House, a school centered on the Schillinger System of composition. It became Berklee School of Music in 1954 and Berklee College of Music in 1970, and is known for contemporary music education covering jazz, rock, film scoring, production, songwriting and music business. The Boston Conservatory at Berklee, with which it merged in 2016, is part of the institution. Its campus is in the Back Bay and Fenway area around Massachusetts Avenue and Boylston Street. Berklee does not use the Common Application. Applicants to the Bachelor of Music complete a live audition and interview, available in Boston, regionally or online, while Bachelor of Arts applicants complete an online interview instead of an audition.
