Belhaven University is a private evangelical Christian university in Jackson, Mississippi, with Presbyterian ties. It traces its founding to 1883, when Mississippi Synodical College merged with McComb Female Institute, and opened as Belhaven College for Young Ladies in 1894 in the mansion of Confederate veteran Jones S. Hamilton, which gave it the Belhaven name. It became coeducational in 1954 and was renamed Belhaven University in 2010. The 42-acre campus sits in the historic Belhaven neighborhood. The university is known for national accreditation in all four major arts, pre-professional programs and NCAA Division III Blazers athletics. The admissions page lists a $25 application fee, a 2.75 GPA for applying test optional, and ACT, SAT or CLT scores otherwise.
