About

Bath Spa University's story begins in 1852, when the Bath School of Art opened after the Great Exhibition; artists including Walter Sickert and Howard Hodgkin studied and taught at what became the Bath Academy of Art. After the Second World War the Academy moved to Corsham Court. In 1983 it joined the Bath College of Higher Education and moved to Sion Hill, while the College of Domestic Science moved to Newton Park, a Grade I listed house with Capability Brown gardens. It was Bath Spa University College before receiving full university status in August 2005.
