BPP was set up in 1976 as an accountancy school by Alan Brierley, Richard Price and Charles Prior, whose initials give the company its name. BPP Law School followed in 1992 as a specialist provider of vocational legal education, and the Business School in 2005. It received degree-awarding powers in 2007, was renamed BPP University College of Professional Studies in 2010 and gained full university status in 2013. It is a private, for-profit university running courses in law, accountancy, business, nursing and technology, with six centres in London, twelve elsewhere in England and two in the Channel Islands.
