Ave Maria University is a Catholic university in Ave Maria, Florida, founded by philanthropist Tom Monaghan. Its predecessor, Ave Maria Institute, began in September 1998 with 40 students as a two-year institute of Catholic higher education; Ave Maria College opened in Ypsilanti, Michigan, an interim campus was created in Naples, Florida in 2003, and the university was reestablished in 2007. Wikipedia reports 1,326 students in 2024. Freshman applicants complete the AMU application, free on the website or $30 through the Common App, take an admissions interview with a counselor and submit transcripts. The university lists a 3.1 minimum GPA. Its own admissions page calls it test optional, meaning no SAT, ACT or CLT score is needed for acceptance, although a score is encouraged because it often helps with scholarships. Transfer applicants need a 2.9 cumulative GPA and at least 24 transferable credit hours.
