Asbury University is a private Christian university in Wilmore, Kentucky, founded on September 2, 1890, by John Wesley Hughes. It opened as Kentucky Holiness College, was renamed Asbury College after Bishop Francis Asbury shortly afterward, and became Asbury University on March 5, 2010. It has no denominational affiliation but is rooted in the Wesleyan-Holiness tradition of Methodism. The university offers more than 50 majors across 17 departments, with a strong liberal arts core, and its Eagles compete in NCAA Division III. Enrollment is roughly 1,800 to 1,900 students. Asbury is distinctive for being test-blind in admissions: SAT and ACT scores are not considered, so decisions rest on the high school GPA and transcript. Its reported average admitted GPA is about 3.65, and the application has historically carried no fee.
