Arts University Plymouth was founded as the Plymouth Drawing School in 1856 and is one of the last specialist art schools in the UK. It has also been known as Plymouth College of Art and Design and, from 2008 to 2022, Plymouth College of Art. The Privy Council approved full university status and the new title in 2022, making it the city's specialist arts university. It is a small institution with 1,610 students in 2024/25, almost all of them undergraduates.
