American University of Ras Al Khaimah (AURAK) is a public, non-profit university located in Ras Al Khaimah, UAE. It was formally established in 2009, building on the campus and academic foundation laid by George Mason University's Ras Al Khaimah branch (2005-2009). AURAK offers undergraduate and graduate programs through three schools: the School of Arts & Sciences, the School of Business, and the School of Engineering and Computing. The university serves a diverse student body representing over 60 nationalities.
Accreditation & Rankings
AURAK holds accreditation from the UAE Commission for Academic Accreditation (CAA), the US-based Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC), and the UK's Quality Assurance Agency (QAA). In 2023, AURAK became the first university in the UAE to receive a QS 5 Stars Plus rating.
Leadership
AURAK's current President is Professor Bassam Alameddine, who assumed the role in August 2025. He previously served as President of Gulf University for Science and Technology (GUST) in Kuwait. He holds a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry.
