The American University in Dubai (AUD) was founded in 1995 by Elias Bou Saab with the backing of Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, then Crown Prince of Dubai, at a time when the emirate had very few private universities offering American-style, English-medium higher education. It has since grown into one of the more established American-model universities in the UAE, offering more than 30 English-medium programmes across five schools, Business Administration, Engineering, Architecture, Art and Design, and Communication. At the graduate level it offers programmes including an MBA, a master's in construction management, an M.Ed. in education, and a master's in leadership and innovation in contemporary media, extending its reach beyond undergraduate education. AUD is accredited by the US-based Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges, giving its degrees direct recognition within the American higher-education system, and it is licensed by the UAE Ministry of Education, with specialty accreditation covering its business, architecture, and interior design programmes.
