Alice Lloyd College is a private work college in Pippa Passes, Kentucky, in the Appalachian coalfields. It was founded in 1923 as Caney Junior College, was renamed after Alice Lloyd later (after 1962), and began granting bachelor's degrees in the early 1980s. Every full-time student takes part in the Student Work Program, which requires at least 10 hours a week and 160 hours per semester, and students from 108 designated Appalachian counties pay no tuition. The college is known for its Voices of Appalachia choir and for the 2021 NCCAA national championship in women's basketball. It enrolls about 570 students and is accredited by SACSCOC. First-year applicants need a minimum core GPA of 2.25, an interview with the admissions staff and a FAFSA, and testing is optional except for the Honors Program.
