Al Qasimia University was established in 2014 in University City, Sharjah, by Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Ruler of Sharjah, who serves as its founder and chairman, building on Sharjah's long-standing identity as a centre for Islamic scholarship and Arab culture in the UAE. It is licensed by the UAE Ministry of Education and offers undergraduate and postgraduate programmes across a mix of religious and contemporary disciplines, including Islamic studies, Sharia, arts and humanities, economics and management, and communication, allowing students to combine traditional Islamic scholarship with fields relevant to today's workforce. The university positions itself as a coeducational institution that brings together Islamic scholarship and modern academic fields under one roof, rather than functioning purely as a religious seminary.
