Adler University traces its roots to 1952, when Rudolf Dreikurs, a student of Alfred Adler, founded the Institute of Adlerian Psychology in Chicago. It became the Alfred Adler Institute of Chicago in 1954, awarded its first master's degrees in 1978, gained doctoral-level accreditation in 1987 and graduated its first Psy.D. students in 1990. Wikipedia dates the Adler School of Professional Psychology name to 1991, and the institution became Adler University in 2015. The Psy.D. programme received American Psychological Association accreditation in 1998. Beyond the Chicago campus on North Dearborn Street, Adler operates a Vancouver campus and an Online Campus. Its mission is built around social justice and training socially responsible practitioners in psychology, counselling and related fields. It is unrelated to the Adler Graduate School in Minnesota, which was chartered separately in 1969 and still trains counsellors under its own name.
