George Washington University was chartered by Congress on February 9, 1821, as Columbian College, Washington's first university. It became Columbian University in 1873 and took its present name in 1904. In 1912 it bought 2023 G Street NW and rented the building next door, starting what became the Foggy Bottom campus. Today the 43-acre campus has more than 100 buildings bordered by the White House, the Kennedy Center, the State Department and the World Bank. GW also operates the Mount Vernon campus in Washington and the GW Virginia Science and Technology Campus in Ashburn. Wikipedia lists 26,457 students from 2021 data, 11,502 of them undergraduates, and the university describes more than 25,000 students across 14 schools and colleges. In 2014 it took over the Corcoran College of Art and Design, now the Corcoran School of the Arts and Design. My searches did not return current admission statistics.
