Hunter College High School is a public, selective magnet secondary school located at 71 East 94th Street in the Carnegie Hill area of Manhattan's Upper East Side. It traces its origins to 1869, when it began as a school for training teachers, and it separated from Hunter College in 1903. Today it is administered and funded by Hunter College of the City University of New York and charges no tuition. The school serves grades 7 through 12 and follows an accelerated, liberal arts college-preparatory program. Admission is selective and takes place at the seventh-grade entry point. Its building was designed to resemble the former Madison Avenue Armory site. The school is known for competitive teams in areas such as Mock Trial, debate and fencing.
