Fettes College is an independent co-educational day and boarding school on Carrington Road in Edinburgh, set on a 100-acre campus near the city centre. It opened in 1870, funded by the bequest of Sir William Fettes, a former Lord Provost of Edinburgh. The school educates pupils aged 5 to 18, with Fettes Prep on East Fettes Avenue and the Senior School on the main campus. Fettes was a boys-only boarding school until 1970, when girls were first admitted in the final year, and it became fully co-educational in 1983. The school has a full boarding ethos with boarding houses serving both boarding and day pupils.
