The Thacher School is a private, coeducational college preparatory boarding school in Ojai, California. It serves about 250 students in grades 9 through 12, and a small number of local students attend as day students. Sherman Day Thacher founded the school in 1889 on the Casa de Piedra ranch. It began as a school for boys and first admitted girls in 1977. Thacher is known for its horse program, in which students care for and ride horses. Its outdoors program runs weekend camping and week-long trips, including backpacking, climbing, sailing and kayaking. Classes use the Harkness discussion method, and the school offers more than 80 courses. Seniors complete a Senior Exhibition before they graduate. The school's older buildings were listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2019.
