The High School of Glasgow is a co-educational independent day school for pupils aged 3 to 18. It traces its foundation to 1124 as the Sang School of Glasgow Cathedral and is regarded as the oldest school in Scotland. Known for a period as Glasgow Grammar School, it took its present name in 1834. In 1976, after the local authority closed the former boys' school, a new independent co-educational school was formed through a merger of the former pupils' club and Drewsteignton School in Bearsden. Today the Junior School and Kindergarten are on Ledcameroch Road in Bearsden and the Senior School is on Crow Road in Anniesland. The school offers academic study alongside extensive extra-curricular programmes, including hockey and rugby academies.
