The Edinburgh Academy, Edinburgh

The Edinburgh Academy is an independent co-educational day school in Edinburgh for pupils aged 2 to 18. Henry Cockburn and Leonard Horner founded it, and it opened on 1 October 1824. The founders wanted a school built around classical learning that also met modern needs. Girls first joined in the Sixth Form in the 1970s, and the school became fully co-educational in 2008. Today, it runs a Nursery, a Junior School (Primary 1 to 6) and a Senior School (Primary 7 to S6). The Senior School stands on Henderson Row. The Junior School and Nursery are on Arboretum Road. Pupils follow the Scottish system. Bursaries and scholarships are available.
