Roots International Schools & Colleges (RISC) is a private school network that is part of the Roots School System. Mrs. Riffat Mushtaq founded the institution in April 1988 at 74 Harley Street, Rawalpindi. She introduced the international Montessori method in its early years. Roots says it was the first to offer an exclusive Montessori in the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad. Her son, Mr. Walid Mushtaq, later founded Roots International Schools and Metropolitan College. RISC now runs campuses across Pakistan. Students progress from Thematic Montessori and Junior School to Preparatory Levels. They then take IGCSE or SSC courses, followed by AS and A Levels or HSSC. Students sit examinations of Cambridge (CIE), Edexcel and the Federal Board. Merit scholarships are available at selected campuses for AS, A Level and HSSC.
