Marlborough School is an independent college preparatory school for girls in the Hancock Park neighborhood of Los Angeles, California. It serves students in grades 7 through 12. Mary S. Caswell, a New England educator, founded the school in 1889 as St. Margaret's School for Girls. It is the oldest independent girls' school in Southern California. The school first opened in the West Adams district and moved to the Hancock Park area in 1916. Ada Blake, who led the school from 1924, broadened its curriculum. Today Marlborough enrolls more than 500 students and keeps a student-teacher ratio of about 8:1. Its teams, the Mustangs, compete in the CIF Southern Section. Students also publish a newspaper, The UltraViolet.
