King Henry VIII School is an independent, co-educational day school on Warwick Road, Coventry. It dates from 1545, when Henry VIII told Sir John Hales to found a school in the city. From 1558 the school used the former Hospital of St John the Baptist on Hales Street. It moved to Warwick Road in 1885. The school admitted its first girls in 1975. Much of the building was destroyed in an air raid in 1940–41. The senior school has around 725 pupils aged 11 to 18. The Grange Pre-Prep and the Junior School teach younger children. Sixth Form students choose from a range of A Level subjects. The school is part of the Coventry School Foundation, an educational charity.
