Hawken School is an independent, coeducational college preparatory day school in the Cleveland area of Ohio, serving students from early childhood through grade 12. It was founded in 1915 by James A. Hawken as a boys' school in Cleveland and moved to Lyndhurst in 1922. A high school campus in Chester Township followed in 1961, and the school became coeducational in the 1970s. Today the Lower and Middle Schools are in Lyndhurst and the Upper School is on the Gates Mills campus, while the Gries Center in University Circle supports experiential and service learning for all grades. Hawken enrolls more than 1,000 students and also operates the Mastery School of Hawken, a separate high school program.
