Catlin Gabel School is an independent, coeducational preschool through grade 12 day school located just west of Portland, Oregon. It was formed in 1957 through the merger of Catlin Hillside School, which began in 1911 as Miss Catlin's School, and Gabel Country Day School, which grew out of Portland Academy. The combined school moved to a former farm property on SW Barnes Road, with the Upper School arriving in 1958 and the Lower School in 1968. Catlin Gabel enrolls about 790 students in its Beginning and Lower, Middle and Upper Schools. The school is known for student science research, a long-running robotics team, and the PLACE program, which engages Upper School students in urban planning and sustainability.
