Tidewater Community College (TCC) is a public community college serving the South Hampton Roads region of Virginia and a member of the Virginia Community College System. It was established in 1968 after local philanthropist Fred W. Beazley closed Frederick College and deeded its land to the Commonwealth. TCC has since grown to campuses in Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth and Virginia Beach, along with a presence in Suffolk; the Norfolk campus occupies former department store buildings, and the Portsmouth campus moved to a new site in 2010. The college offers associate degrees and certificates in transfer and career fields and maintains transfer agreements with four-year institutions such as Norfolk State University and Virginia Wesleyan University. It is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges and enrolls about 16,000 students.
